November Athlete of the Month is Nicole Brumble from Main. Nikki has shown remarkable improvement on her movements throughout the course of the year. She works extremely hard, staying after class most days to work on her pull ups, mobility and other weaknesses. She is very coachable and puts forth 100% effort everyday.
Why do you CrossFit?
NB: I started crossfit initially to lose weight, get into better shape, and because my beautiful friend, Kolleen Moosman raved about CrossFit Blade. Those are still reasons I crossfit today however, I think now I focus more on challenging and pushing myself as hard as I can both mentally and physically. I love the push, love the constant variation in movement, love Blade, and love the Blade community that makes exercise FUN! I feel amazing every time I leave the gym. Crossfit has changed me in so many ways. Another legit reason is – I can’t Zumba (much respect to those who can). My first week at Blade, I asked Coach Chris if my knees would hurt from all the squatting as they had prior to crossfit. His response was direct and something like- ‘Not with correct form but maybe you should go try a Zumba class?!’ LOL!! Happy to say I am a lifer and free of knee pain.
What is your favorite WOD?
NB: Helen or Griff. Running backwards in Griff is such an adventure!
What is your least favorite exercise?
NB: Burpees! I think I’m getting a little bit better each time though:)
What are your hobbies?
NB: Shopping, shoe shopping, and collecting shoes of all types. I’m working towards a collection to rival Imelda Marcos:) I love snowboarding/skiing and hiking with my family too.
What is something that many people may not know about you?
NB: I go crazy if my food touches. For example, if steak sauce slides and touches my salad. I prefer plates with dividers to completely eliminate any possibility of a mix up.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
NB: There have been so many at Blade, its hard to pick one! Probably getting to the top on the rope climb. Also, I was pretty excited when I was able to RX Annie and string 20-30 double under together!! That was pretty awesome.
What are your goals?
2014: I am determined to get a strict pull up before the end of the year!!
2015: Progressions to kipping pull-ups and HSPUs so I can do them regularly during WODs. Get faster and leaner (lose 10lbs of body fat!)
