Congratulations to Michele Janos as our September Blade Athlete of the Month! There are many reasons Michele is deserving of this month’s BAM. She not only has worked extremely hard and taken huge strides in her performance, but has also proven to be a very coachable athlete and a positive influence on our Blade community. She is very encouraging to other athletes and is always willing to give a helping hand. Her hard work is easily recognizable if you have seen her on the pull up bar recently. She can knock out quite a few rx pull ups!
Here are Janos’ fun facts:
Why do you crossfit?
I crossfit for several reasons but the main reason is that I love the confidence that it has given me to try new things and just in general every day. I’ve learned that my body is capable of so many amazing things that I never thought were possible. The physical changes have also been incredible, feeling and SEEING muscle where before there was only….um, “soft”… is so cool. The community that crossfit creates has also played an enormous part in why I crossfit. Being a part of a group of amazing people that are pushing themselves to their limits right there with you and encouraging you to be the best that you can be is such a great feeling.
What is your favorite Benchmark WOD?
Helen, although I do have a love/hate thing going on with Angie and Fran.
What is your least favorite exercise?
Rowing, definitely……rowing.
What are your hobbies?
Crossfit! Hiking with my husband and dogs, making jewelry, playing the piano
What is something that many people may not know about you?
I love being creative and making things. I have a very small copper jewelry business, making bracelets, earrings and pendants and Christmas ornaments. I mostly do it to entertain myself.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
In life, that my husband and I made our dream of moving to Arizona come true, leaving the stress and the cold behind in Ohio. In crossfit, finally overcoming my fear of being upside down and after 2 1/2 years being able to kick up into a handstand!!
What are your goals for 2014?
The 2 main goals that I had when joining Blade earlier this year were to be able to string double unders together and to be able to do a handstand. I still have oh so much room for improvement on both of those but I can say that I have accomplished them both. Since it’s only October, maybe I’ll add stringing toes to bar together.
